Envoy on your computer and phone

Windows

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Installs just for you, no admin needed.

Download for WindowsZip, no installerInstaller, version 1.3.1, 78 MBZip, version 1.3.1, 111 MB
  1. Open Envoy-win-x64-setup.exe. It installs Envoy, adds it to the Start menu and desktop, and opens it.
  2. Envoy keeps itself up to date. When a new version is ready it asks you to Restart to update.
  3. Used the zip before? Delete that old Envoy folder and unpin its taskbar icon. You stay signed in.
If Windows warns
Envoy isn't code-signed yet, so Windows may say Windows protected your PC. Choose More info, then Run anyway. Your browser may also ask whether to keep the download: choose Keep.
Uninstall
Open Settings, Apps, Installed apps, find Envoy and choose Uninstall.

Mac

macOS 11 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.

curl -fsSL https://envoy.lewin.app/install.sh | bash
Apple silicon (M1 and later)Intel MacApple silicon, version 1.3.1, 95 MBIntel, version 1.3.1, 101 MB
  1. Open Terminal, paste the command and press Return. It picks the right version for your Mac, checks the download, puts Envoy in Applications and opens it.
  2. Envoy keeps itself up to date. Run the command again any time to reinstall.
  3. Or download the zip, open it and drag Envoy into Applications.
If the command can't check the signature
The command checks that the release list is signed by Lewin Digital, using ssh-keygen or OpenSSL 3. If your computer has neither, it stops and installs nothing. Install OpenSSH or OpenSSL, or, to go ahead relying on https and the download's checksum alone, run:
curl -fsSL https://envoy.lewin.app/install.sh | ENVOY_INSECURE=1 bash
If macOS warns
With the command, macOS opens Envoy without asking. With the zip, macOS may say Envoy can't be opened because Apple can't check it: right-click Envoy, choose Open, then Open again (on macOS 15, open System Settings, Privacy and Security, and choose Open Anyway). Envoy isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID yet.
Uninstall
Paste in Terminal:
curl -fsSL https://envoy.lewin.app/install.sh | bash -s -- --uninstall
Or drag Envoy from Applications to the Bin.

Linux

Most 64-bit (x86_64) distributions.

curl -fsSL https://envoy.lewin.app/install.sh | bash
Download .debDownload AppImageAppImage, version 1.3.1, 104 MB.deb, version 1.3.1, 72 MB
  1. Paste the command in a terminal. It installs Envoy just for you (no sudo) with a menu entry and an envoy command. Run it with sudo to install for everyone.
  2. Envoy keeps itself up to date. Running the command again updates or repairs it.
  3. Debian or Ubuntu: sudo apt install ./Envoy-linux-x64.deb instead (it tells you when there's a new version to install the same way). AppImage: chmod +x Envoy-linux-x64*.AppImage and run it.
